Mere Christianity
Reflection: Given its reputation as one of the most beloved Christian books, I expected a lot. I found it rather unconvincing.
The author begins with the “Law of Human Nature,” a supposed universal moral law we all recognize. He says our sense of good must point to something beyond evolution or social conditioning. I think this ignores how evolution could naturally lead to cooperation, altruism, and moral feelings.
Since this main idea did not persuade me, much of the rest felt built on weak foundations. I finished the book disappointed and confused about the hype. There were some interesting bits.
